Veteran’s Day 8-Bit Salute for The Troops

Salute the Troops This Veteran’s Day, gamer style! As you all know, November marks the official start of the holiday season and this can be a rough time for those who are serving overseas, particularly in strategically positioned and challenging areas, such as Afghanistan. When not on duty, troops usually occupy their time studying to advance their careers, reading, and, of course, gaming. Unfortunately, due to the hostility of some of the bases in Afghanistan, video game equipment can be hard to access. Fortunately, there is someone who has stepped up and formed an alliance with several websites, businesses, and other organizations to remedy this problem and get those soldiers the video games they need and deserve!

Stephen “Shanghai Six” Machuga, former Captain and U.S. Army Ranger, founded Operation Supply Drop exactly two years ago this November and has amassed more than $60,000 in games for the troops serving abroad. In an effort to raise funds and awareness for this awesome charity, Operation Supply Drop will be conducting a nationwide charity event that will span five cities. That’s right! If you are in the local areas of Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Chicago, and New York, you can help support this noble organization.

Even the Master Broadcaster, the King of Stream himself, Kona, will be producing a local event in Chicago. Kona’s Korner Productions, in coordination with Operation Supply Drop and Off Duty Gamers, will be streaming LIVE from Game Pazzo, located on the west side of Chicago.

With gaming stations, live music, prizes, food, and a full bar there is NO reason to pass up this great opportunity. Participate in the raffle which will benefit Operation Supply Drop and their next mission sending more packages to the desert. If you can’t be there in person – no problem! Kona and his professional production staff will make the event available on Game Pazzo’s Twitch.tv channel. More details, such as address, time, and date will be listed below, so don’t forget to scroll down.

Every one of us have been influenced by a service member in one way or another. This November 10, 2012, if you are near any one of the above cities, feel free to stop in, play a few games, have some fun, spend a little time, and donate some loose change. But most of all, find a veteran, grab his or her hand and just say thank you!
