REVIEW: Roxio Game Capture HD Pro
Roxio has learned a lot since its first foray into the world of game capture devices and it shows in every way possible. The new Game Capture HD Pro is more than just a HD upgrade it’s the ultimate all inclusive game capture setup packed neatly into one device. Roxio was able to tap into many of the things gamer’s want in a device whether they want to stream or capture or even both this device delivers on every front. They have taken things even further into the next step by offering one of the most robust pieces of video editing software I have seen that wasn’t a standalone product costing hundreds of dollars.
The new device is a breeze to hook up. Acting as a pass through device you simply connect the Roxio Game Capture HD Pro between your console of choice and your TV. Using either HDMI or Component the setup only takes minutes to complete. Because of its neutral pass through design the Roxio can work with any console and can even record PC gameplay if you are connecting to your monitor using HDMI or Component. Unlike the previous game capture model this one does not include any cables other than the USB cable needed to connect the device to your computer. So keep in that mind when purchasing this as you may want to include either another HDMI or component cable set to your shopping cart.
Once you get things setup it’s time to try out the software and that is honestly where the Roxio shines the most when compared to other similar products on the marketplace. Building on the easy to use and intuitive GUI of the previous model the software this time around includes many new recording and streaming features that gamers will love. You can now change the bit rate of your recordings to your liking to change the quality and file size of your recordings. You can record in 720p,1080p, and even 1080i. Recording in 1080i with a max bit rate of 15,000 will result in some beautiful gameplay capture that looks great even when uploaded to youtube.
The software makes whatever you choose to do a breeze. If you want to simply record your gameplay one quick button click is all you need to be on your way. From there you have the freedom to enhance the picture using the software right in front of you. From adjusting the brightness to even the saturation everything is available to you on the fly with easy to use sliders to get the best results for each game. There is no doubt they took into consideration many of the things gamers would normally look to other standalone third party software products to do such as Xsplit. Many of the features you are looking for are now included right here in the Roxio software.
Streaming is just as easy. Simply click the stream button and you will be prompted to login into your justintv/twitch account and you are instantly streaming live. No confusing setups to deal with no complicated drivers to install and no need for any third party software at all! It really is that simple! Just like with recording gameplay, many of the features gamers have been looking for are once more included right here. You have the ability to adjust your bit rate to work best with your home internet and even adjust picture quality and overall picture settings. As if that wasn’t enough the software even allows you to hook up an external mic and broadcast your voice live over your stream as well. No splitters no external software nothing more is needed than whatever mic you currently have installed on your PC.
Simply putting gameplay videos up on youtube isn’t enough to be the next big machinima star. They need pizazz. They need sparkle. They need the benefit of a really awesome and robust video editing program! Luckily for you that is exactly what Roxio has included with the Game Capture Pro. This new video editing software comes complete with many of the features you would find in big dollar software products. The added benefit here is that Roxio has streamed lined the software features to things gamers want without including a bunch of features they wouldn’t want or necessarily use that often. You can do picture in picture, adjust gameplay speed, overlays, narration, the list goes on and on. I am finding so many new things to do with the software each time I use it the possibilities are endless as to what you can create with it.
There really is no drawback to the device, admittedly so I couldn’t be happier with the product and the software. If one was to really nitpick over things the streaming is limited to 720p but honestly that is not a deal breaker in the slightest. Broadcasting in 1080 is nice but can be a real pain sometimes with home internet restraints and hardware limits. 720p is just fine for most broadcasters and as I mentioned is hardly a deal breaker by any means especially when you consider the price of the new Roxio. 129 dollars!! Yeah you can get all of this for 129 bucks. MSRP is 149 dollars but you can buy the device on the Roxio website directly for 129 bucks plus shipping. The price and the included software give the Roxio a real edge over its competitors in the same space. The simple to use software makes recording and streaming a simple process and the added bonus of the video editing software should make this a no brainer deal for almost anyone looking to get into the world of streaming and capturing.
This is just a quick compilation video all video editing and capturing was done with the Roxio and its included software all recorded in 1080i be sure to watch in HD for the best experience
