Been Wondering What That Golden Key Is For In Borderlands 2?
A while back, we told you about the various editions of Borderlands 2 (Regular, Deluxe Vault, and Loot Chest) and what surprises come in each. It took about a week or so for the Loot Editions to clear out and I’m sure that by now, the supply of Deluxe Vault Editions are running low as well. One of the things you can still snag with your pre-order is access to the game’s Premier Club (pictured above).
This entitles you to a host of goodies to play with including the Vault Hunter’s Relic, the Gearbox Gun Pack, and of course “Gaige”, the fifth playable character from the Mechromancer Class. Lastly, it equips you with a Golden Key. At the time, we never really knew what it was for but salivated over the idea that it would unlock something awesome.
We have now learned from the Gearbox Software site that this Golden Key unlocks this very special chest shown above. It is found in the city of Sanctuary which they claim takes about three hours of gameplay to reach. That may seem like a lot but let’s face it … we’ll have no problems putting in the time on this one.
While the contents of said chest are said to be among the rarest of items (purple), you must also make a choice says Gearbox Community Manager, Chris Faylor, as these keys are extremely uncommon.
If you’ve only got one Key, you need to consider: do I want some high-quality loot right now, or do I want to wait until I’m closer to the (considerably more difficult) end of the game? Do I want my Level 21 Maya to open the chest, or should I switch to my Level 33 Axton?
Keep in mind that you cannot trade or sell Golden Keys, and once you’ve used a Key to open the Golden Chest, that Key is gone for good. So, you know. Choose carefully.
So there you have it. OK OK OK, so they’re not giving away the farm here, but at least we know that our decision making process can determine how we experience the game. Borderlands 2 will be out next Tuesday so try as hard as you can to contain your excitement!
