Are Costume Companies Looking To Cash In On Video Game Cosplaying This Year?

Video game character Cosplay has been a growing phenomenon for the past few years with homemade costumes becoming  more and more elaborate each year. Just as video game characters themselves are becoming more personable even more people have taken to portraying their favorite ones through cosplaying. Well it seems Halloween costume companies are looking to cash in on the popularity this year by offering up a huge assortment of video game character based offerings all of which are new for 2012. While video game based costumes are nothing new there is no denying there is a large increase in the amount of video game oriented ones now than in years past. The best part is in some cases they aren’t even giving the video game characters their just dues, instead simply giving them generic names.  While homemade costumes more often than not will be of a greater quality and standard than most store bought ones, it’s nice to see a few options out there for those who aren’t as inclined (or able to) make their own costumes.

No need to spend countless hours making your own Ezio outfit when you can buy this one from Spirit Halloween

Always fancied yourself as more a Link kind of guy well then check out this “Elf Warrior” outfit

Tired of the same old green Spartan armor why not try red or blue instead(cheesy black boots not included)

More a fighting game kind of guy then how about these new Street Fighter outfits

More of a Mortal Kombat fan? No worries!

Then there is my personal favorite for this year with Ghost from COD Modern Warfare 2 simply named “Skull Commando Guy”

As I said Halloween Costumes based on video games is nothing new but I couldn’t help but notice the large increase in the number of them this year.  While some of these costumes are nothing short of an abomination to the games they are based on (mostly the Halo ones) a few of them seem pretty decent and offer up a much better solution to making one yourself.  Of course there is more quality control involved in making one yourself but then again there is that odd moment when the girl at the register looks at you funny for buying all of the shiny blue fabric they have in the store at once.
