2K Games and Irrational Games announced today that BioShock Infinite is set to hit retailers in North America on October 16th of this year (October 19th internationally). Arguably one of the most anticipated games of 2012, it will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC.

Set in the sky city of Columbia circa 1912, BioShock Infinite players assume the role of Booker DeWitt, an ex Pinkerton agent. Together with his AI companion Elizabeth and armed with an all new weapons cache, the two fend of swarms of adversaries while trying to escape the city.

“After BioShock, we had a vision for a follow up that dwarfed the original in scope and ambition,” said Ken Levine (@iglevine), Creative Director of Irrational Games (@irrationalgames). “BioShock Infinite has been our sole focus for the last four years, and we can’t wait for fans to get their hands on it.”
